The idiot's guide to quitting your job! Got one?

So my last day in Chicago, Illinois will officially be August 16th! YAY! So my last day on the job will be August 15th. My problem is quitting. I really like my boss and job but we're moving to Florida. I have only been here 8 months (which is horrible) but when I got here I never knew I'd be engaged, married and moving. So I've got a '2 weeks notice' template but I feel so guilty having to tell her I'm leaving. Especially when we're about to get busy!

Now my mom said that I should give the standard 2 weeks notice but I want to give her more which means I would have to tell her today because I'm going to Florida tomorrow. I'll be back Monday and I could tell her then...I'm just so nervous...

SOoooooo alpah ladies please advise me on how to quit my job...because my boss is going to FREAK!

Lets start by finishing the sentence...."Janeen I have something to tell you......Sad

Hmmm...

It seems like you like your job a lot and I think that you can schedule a meeting with your HR person (I am one of those HR people lol) and just let her know that your husband and you have decided to relocate to another state. If its a big company you can ask about transfers etc in your new location. If not, thank her for the opportunity etc and let her know your last day of work will be Aug 15 but you wanted to give them enough time to recruit and train a new person while you are still there to hand over.

You should also prepare a formal letter of resignation and sign it. Especially if you have medical benefits and want to keep your COBRA!

Don't feel bad about leaving sweetie - your chair won't have time to be cold before a new tushie is sitting in it. That is the unfortunate reality!

ok but...

I work at a university so I have to tell this to the Financial Aid Director being that she's my boss. Apparently she will turn in my letter to HR. I got a good relocation template from the net and typed it up for her. The question is when do I do it?

And it takes them forever to higher because it's only like 5 counselors which p.s. two are one maternity leave which leaves 3 of us and 2 temps...When the maternity girls come back in a couple of weeks this will be the first time in years that the financial aid office will be full staffed! Or so they think! Sad

Sooner is better than

Sooner is better than later...just be sure your move is still on schedule in case you need to hold on to an extra check or two!
