I have made it too sunny FLorida!!!!!!!!!!!! yay!!
Or is it exciting? I have been boarded up in a loft since I stepped my foot on this damp ground. Why you ask? Hurricane Faye. Which I know nothing about hurricanes. The first night my husband and I went swimming in our new pool *shrug shoulders* we didn't know! Second day we went job hunting during Faye. Now my mother who doesn't move out of our loft until tomorrow...calls us and tells us( and my sis who just got here) to go buy hurricane stuff from the grocery store. After an hour we came home with chips, dip, water, crackers, and cheese? Hell if we knew how to do this we're from Chicago!
I hope eventually we will be able to get out of the house. My mother, not knowing anything about hurricanes, won't let anyone leave! By the way it's barely raining. Around us it's really bad but here it's just kinda dark!
But of course my mom has been off work all week and no jobs have called me back to start because of the storm.
DAMN YOU FAYE!

I think you forgot the standard hurricane bottle of wine!! Haha! That's hilarious;-)
I went through a similar reaction when I experienced my first earthquake here in L.A. Granted, when it happened there were no warnings, but in the moment I was like, "crap, what I am I supposed to do???" I just pushed myself away from desk as I sat on my wheeled chair and watched everything around me shake. I wish I would have had some chips and dip to nibble on for those frightening 30 seconds!!!

Hurricanes
Hurricanes are a tricky thing. I am from New Orleans although I had already moved to GA before Hurricane Katrina but I had my times of preparing for hurricane season, running from them, disobeying orders to evacuate. Hurricane season starts in July and to be honest with you just stay glued to the tv to see if its headed your way, which category storm it is, etc. If they demand you to evacuate please don't be stubborn and stay because the storm can change directions at the last minute and you see what happened with Hurrican Katrina....so business will be back to normal after the storm pass and you will get those interviews and land you a great job.

I realize that every region
I realize that every region has it's only weather issues, but the whole hurricane/tornado/twister thing is exactly why I live out west! Even when I lived in Cali it was cool b/c our earthquakes were not every month or every year for that matter.
I tried to get my brother and his wife to come stay with me in Las Vegas right after Hurricane K, but they were not having it! SurpriseHoney--you New Orleanians are stubborn as all get out!!!
Darn J -- I hope this passes soon so you and your family can get on with living!

Tired
I think that stems from all of the false alarms we had and evacuating and then driving out of town to find out that the storm turned and headed to the Gulf. It became a habit of feeling like its not going to hit here and people became tired of packing up and leaving.
All of my family still lived in NO when Hurricane K hit. Being that I moved away they took that as a reason to head to Atlanta. Thankfully, because my mother was not planning to leave until my sisters told her they was going to come here. I often wonder to myself if any of us would have evacuated if I still lived there. But hey....I'm glad I didn't live there anymore, that alone saved my family!

Welcome to FL....
In about 3 months you will be thrilled with the weather
Where did you guys move?
Thanks Ladies
Yea it finally passed, but not without feet and feet of rain and no electricity for a day. We can finally see the sun after a week of being in Lake Mary, Florida which is right over Orlando! So the job hunt is really on now!
What a welcome!
Its ok - this is your new life!Shutters, bottled water, canned food, candles and lamps - all hurricane friendly items.
My mother who evidently wanted to be a meteorologist in another life, called me after the hurricane and demanded, " why didn't you call me! Didn't you know we were in the middle of a hurricane".
So I said, "You live in Florida and it's hurricane season. Somehow I don't seem to find your news particularly startling."
Naturally I had to listen to an earful for that but er... why in the world would you go looking for a job right after a hurricane? Were you hoping some of the people got Blown away ? lol lol ..sorry ..not really funny but..kinda.
Good luck on your job hunt!
